The Past

“‘The past is a foreign country,’ L.P. Hartley wrote in the opening line of The Go-Between (1953); ‘they do things differently there.’ This observation applies not only to the collective or societal past but to the individual and psychological past as well: childhood remains – to a remarkable degree – an unexplored territory whose inhabitants have a culture comprising intricate customs and codes that are uniquely his own, seldom recorded or analyzed, usually forgotten in adulthood” (Hutchings, 1994).

I just wanted to see

A boy I saw in Prices Street the other day was looking under the temporary barriers as workmen dug up the pavement. He wanted to see the hole they were digging. His Mum leant on the fence and checked her watch, waiting for her son to have seen enough digging to be satisfied.

The last bean

Late February illustration for Michael's monthly physics fact: Scientists have worked out how to levitate using lasers. Maybe in a couple of decades people will commute to work and various educational institutions on lasers, some kids will mess about in a suspension of gravity, some commuters will be annoyed at hold-ups and business men will still read newspapers. There will be umbrellas at 20ΓΈ and additional baggage carriers at ∆ 2 extra charge.

Entropy in Thermodynamics

First of a monthly thing with my brother who is studying physics. He is going to tell me a short fact which I'll try to make an illustration from! This one for January is:

In thermodynamics, there is a concept of entropy which means the universe is becoming more disordered with every transfer of energy that takes place.

Too Late!

An amalgamation of drawing from photographs, drypoint etching and digital rendering (good old Photoshop). An album cover for Perth and Edinburgh-based band Albert Shakespeare.
